KIT Royal Tropical Institute has been housed in the monumental building of het Koninklijk Insituut voor de Tropen on the Mauritskade in Amsterdam-East since 1926. Café De Tropen, KIT Meeting & Events, and the Amsterdam Tropen Hotel are als housed on these grounds. As a not-for-profit organization, all profits from the before mentioned departments are used in reaching the goals of KIT Royal Tropical Institute. Besides this, the building offers a place to meet, the KIT Community, where 200 sustainable entrepreneurs and organizations work together, learn, and innovate in both local as well as global initiatives.

 

KIT Health is part of  KIT Royal Tropical Institute and aims to improve the health of people in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) by cooperation on research, evaluation, advice and education. Our mission is to improve equity in health by empowering people and strengthening health systems. We work with partners to generate context-specific knowledge and to build capacity at the interface of policy and practice. Key thematic areas of work are education, sexual and reproductive health & rights (SRHR), health systems strengthening and disease prevention and control.

 

KIT Health seeks applications for the position of Head of Masters Programs. We seek a dynamic professional with expertise in and a solid track record in international public health: teaching, consultancy/advisory work, and research.

 

As our external portfolio is steadily expanding, we seek to recruit a:

 

Senior Advisor & Head of International Public Health Masters Programs

 

for an average of 38 or 32 hours/week. The work takes place in Amsterdam but may require travelling to notably Africa, and to a lesser extent to Asia and Eastern Europe. Our organization’s working language is English.

Main responsibilities of Head of Masters Programs:

  • Strategically direct, coordinate, organise, implement and evaluate the two masters programs at KIT Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam [1. Master’s in Public Health – the International Course in Health Development; and 2. Masters in International Health]. Specifically,
    • Lead the Masters in Public Health – the International Course in Health Development, program.
    • Oversee quality assurance of both Master’s, ensure compliance with reaccreditation requirements of the Vrije Universiteit, and the NVAO [the Dutch Flemish Accreditation Organisation].
    • Promote learning and innovation in the masters programs, e.g. including, but not limited to e-learning. 
    • Appropriately network to manage external relations – in coordination with colleagues.
    • Proactively develop and lead the commercial strategy for the masters (among others, acquiring scholarship funding, and high potential students).
    • Within KIT, steer the KIT fellowship/scholarship fund and directly engage with the board of the fund.
  • Actively contribute to the achievement of institutional goals through academic and professional leadership; specifically through acquiring and leading research/advisory/capacity building projects – in the field of international public health.

 

You have:

  • A doctoral qualification (DrPH, DSc, PhD, MFPH etc) in Public Health.
  • Strong track record in international health policy, health systems, health services – practice, research and education domains, as evidenced by:
    • Track record of attracting competitive national and/or international level funding for research/capacity building – for oneself and for colleagues.
    • Track record of publications in disciplinary-relevant, internationally refereed and reputed journals.
    • Involvement in managing/leading internationally oriented masters programs in public health/global health/international health.
  • Minimum 10 years of recent and relevant working experience, including in low-middle income countries.
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience in a teaching/training position in the area of international public health; experience with e-learning or blended learning will be an advantage.
  • Strong project management and organization skills, proven experience in leading large projects successfully.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and an entrepreneurial attitude
  • Team player and a results oriented attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written English; a good command over French will be an added advantage.

 

We offer:

A salary based on qualifications and experience between €4367,- and €5540,- gross per month for a full time 38-hour working week. In addition there is an 8% holiday allowance, 25 days paid leave annually and admission to the KIT pension fund (ABP). The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility (subject to good performance) of renewal.
